The song was inspired by a tragic story from a fan of the band

Last Saturday, the 2nd, Metallica performed at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas, and prepared a surprise for the fans.

For the first time, the group played “Here Comes Revenge” live. The track is from their latest studio album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct , from 2016, and was inspired by a Metallica fan who died in a car accident. Her parents, as a way to honor her, began listening to the band and attending their concerts.

During an interview with Virgin Radio , frontman James Hetfield revealed that when he heard the story, he wrote "Here Comes Revenge," putting himself in the shoes of the parents who lost their daughter in such a tragic way.
